Exploring Provence

Lourmarin is situated in the Luberon Regional Park with numerous hiking, bike/horse riding paths through wild thyme, rosemary and juniper. I have lots of maps, guides and ideas to make the most of this wonderful place.

There are many attractive villages in the vicinity of Lourmarin: Cucuron, Lauris, Ansouis and travelling north through the combe, Bonnieux, Lacoste, Gordes, Apt, Ménerbes and Roussillon, to name but a few.

Larger towns within an hour's drive include Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Arles, St. Remy de Provence and Marseille.

The French Riviera with Antibes, Cannes with its famous film festival, Nice, and St. Tropez are all a day-trip from here.

Aix-en-Provence delights with elegant boulevards, lively markets, soothing fountains, Cézanne’s legacy, and sunny Provençal charm

Arles offers Roman heritage, Rhône charm, Van Gogh sites, markets, and the Rencontres d’Arles photography festival.

As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the medieval city of Avignon has the Palais des Papes, the Cathedral and the Pont d'Avignon. It also hosts the famous annual Festival d'Avignon.

The Gorges du Verdon is a spectacular canyon to the north east, with hiking, camping, and river rafting.

The beautiful, unspoiled village of Ansouis occasionally erupts, especially during the Fête de la Musique!

The Camargue is a protected natural reserve 90 minutes to the south in the Rhone delta. Famous for bird watching, black bulls, white Camargue horses, and pink famingos.
